Fuengirola

Fuengirola has long been a favourite with those seeking a large town that has retained its Spanish roots and Andalucian charm. A tiny fishing village previously, it has become a vibrant Spanish town full of character, amenities, and festivities year round.

Along the beach promenade of Fuengirola, you will find every kind of water sports as well as excellent beach bars and restaurants, locally referred to as ‘Chiringuitos’. These eateries offer fresh fish and seafood delivered fresh daily from the fishing vessels that service the restaurants. The promenade along the sea is extremely wide and extensive, reflecting the town’s position as a premier destination.

Opened in February 2016, the gourmet market in Fuengirola, La Galeria has become one of the favourite places for locals and visitors. It is a Bazaar concept that has reached the coast from Madrid, with its retractable roof and array of vendors. It is a great place to let the senses run wild. It is located just by the beautiful Plaza de la Constitucion, with its famed Church and Lola’s nightclub where Spanish rhythms are played until the early hours.

The train line links Fuengirola to Malaga Airport and to the resorts on the east of the Costa del Sol – Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Malaga city centre. From the main bus station you can get the bus to Marbella, Granada, Cordoba and even Gibraltar, making it an ideal location to discover Andalucia.

Fuengirola has a schedule filled with festivals and events throughout the year. Probably the most renowned is La Feria de Los Pueblos. In just one day, you can visit up to 50 countries – or at least a microcosm of each one, since they are represented in full flavour, sound and culture. For over 10 years this annual celebration has grown and become extremely popular with local residents and visitors alike. There is something for the entire family – from German bratwurst to Cuban rhythms, Irish dancing shows to French gourmet food. It is one of the most popular festivals in Fuengirola and people come from all over Spain to join in the celebrations.

If you are looking to buy on the Costa del Sol, Fuengirola has so much to offer with the growing international community testament to this. As the town’s popularity with expats continues to grow, properties in Fuengirola will prove to be a sound long-term investment, and perfect for those seeking pure enjoyment.
